The Evolution, Biodiversity and Conservation specialisation is a joint programme of the Institute of Biology, the Institute of Environmental Sciences and the Netherlands Center for Biodiversity with the emphasis on ecology, evolutionary biology, animal behaviour, developmental biology, environmental sciences, systematics and conservation biology.

Molecular and Cellular Biosciences allows specialisations in experimental molecular-biological and biomedical research, with the possibility for multidisciplinary interactions with other research groups in the Faculty of Science and the Leiden University Medical Center.

The Master’s specialisation in Biology and Education combines a one-year biology research with a one-year teacher training programme. This specialisation meets the requirements for the teaching qualification in biology, needed to teach in the Dutch high school system.

This Master’s specialisation combines research training in biology (taught in English) with a programme in communication (taught in Dutch). Students of this master’s specialisation are able to try out the interesting opportunities offered by a career as scientific communicator or scientific journalist.
